Schiphol is consulting with airlines about solutions to prevent large crowds in the departure halls. The airport mainly aims at moving flights to other airports in the Netherlands. They have already indicated that they can take over a few dozen flights in total.
Staff shortages at security and handling companies threatened chaos on the busy weekend days last weekend. Schiphol therefore asked airlines to reduce the influx of travelers. Dozens of flights were then cancelled. During this May holiday, an average of 174,000 passengers per day will travel via Schiphol, but Saturdays and Sundays are relatively busier.
