The new Munich-Zurich Airport route links up with the existing train-air services between Zurich Airport and the stations of Basel, Lugano and Geneva, which have been gradually expanded in recent years under the name Swiss Airtrain
The train will run in both directions six times a day. Travelers with a SWISS ticket can use the train between Munich Hauptbahnhof and Zurich Airport, vice versa, at no extra cost. Swiss also flies on the route of approximately 350 kilometers (overland). It is still unclear whether the train will replace the plane or whether the subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group will continue to offer both products.
Customers who are members of Miles & More, the frequent flyer program of the Lufthansa Group, also receive status and award miles on their Swiss Air Rail product.
The airline wants to expand the service by train even further. More stops are planned from this summer on existing connections, while a baggage pick-up and drop-off option is also planned.
